>> volunteer fire service open day & firework display
Once again, this year, the Volunteer Firefighters are organising their spectacular Open Day & Firework Display. Th event is a positive community collaboration which brings together the broader Rodney region to enjoy demonstrations of fire safety and firemanship skills, live entertainment and a safe and professionally managed pyrotechnics event. The pyrotechnics display is aimed to minimise the stress on the emergency services by attending reduced numbers of un-managed, domestic fire work ‘displays’. The main focus of the event will be to promote public fire displays as a safer alternative to traditional celebrations in home environments, and increase general fire safety awareness. This will be our third consecutive year running this event and it has surpassed all expectations in regards to attendance over the past two years. From Police records the estimated attendance statistic for the 2007 Open Day was over 10,000 people and for last year’s 2008 event were over 7,000 people. Our objective this year is to provide a more condensed Open Day with the focus being The Fire Safety Message, raising Community Awareness and informative Public Interaction with our Volunteer Firefighters. As always the Open Day will be coupled with food & entertainment, an evening’s programme of local and national music performers and a professional pyrotechnics display. |

31st october 2009 - orewa beach reserve - 3:00 to 10:00pm
With the 2008 Open Day and Fire Works display being such a success, the Silverdale Volunteer Fire Fighters have again taken the challenge to run another community focused event. Having enlisted the assistance of a local event planner the 2009 Open Day is sure to be a hit.
This full day event has something for everyone. The day kicks off at 3:00pm where the Volunteer Fire Fighters will display their skills with a range of Fire Fighting drills and scenarios which they are faced with on a daily basis. These displays will include; a car fire, a motor vehicle accident rescue, live fire area which was demonstrated for the first time in 2009, and many other exciting fire fighting displays.
There will be plenty of fire safety information on the day.
Throughout the day there will be food stalls, and entertainment for the children with merry go rounds, bouncy castles etc,…. There will be a variety of Fire Fighting Appliances and associated vehicles on display and fire fighters will be more than happy to show you over all the appliances and the technical gear stowed onboard. This is also a great opportunity for children to have their photo taken while seated in an appliance.
Many other emergency services will be taking part in this event and will showcase their talents on the job throughout the day ie: NZ Police, St Johns Ambulance, Royal New Zealand Air Force and our local Coastguard.
Later in the evening take a seat in front of the “main stage” where local schools will be singing and dancing, followed by professional entertainers. At 9:15pm the Fireworks will start. Last years pyrotechnics were an absolute hit with many being able to see the fire work display from Whangaparaoa Peninsula. This year is set to be a real cracker, with even more professional pyrotechnics!!
Personal Fire Works are NOT PERMITTED what so ever. Thank You.
